UK Criminal Record Checks
Basic Disclosure
This level of criminal record check can be performed for all employees regardless of their job role or function.
This check searches the Police National Computer for any convictions that are not considered spent under the terms of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
The Basic Disclosure certificate will detail any unspent convictions or it will state there is nothing to disclose.
Basic Disclosure results are usually returned within 5-10 business days. However, this can vary depending on the service levels of the provider.
DBS Checks – Standard and Enhanced Disclosure
Standard and Enhanced Disclosures help employers make safer recruitment decisions and prevent unsuitable people from working with vulnerable groups, including children.
Standard Disclosure
This level of criminal record check is only available for certain job roles and individuals must meet certain eligibility criteria as laid out by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

The Standard Disclosure result provides information on convictions, both spent and unspent, together with details of cautions, reprimands or any final warnings on a person’s record.
Standard Disclosure results can be returned in as little as 3 -10 business days. However this can vary depending on service levels of the provider.
Enhanced Disclosure
This level of criminal record check is only available for certain job roles typically those involving work with children and vulnerable adults and individuals must meet certain eligibility criteria as laid out by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
The Enhanced Disclosure certificate provides information on convictions, both spent and unspent, together with details of cautions, reprimands or any final warnings on a person’s record and other police intelligence deemed relevant to particular roles.
Depending on the position applied for the Enhanced Disclosure will included a check of the DBS children barred list and adult barred list for England, Wales and Northern Ireland to ensure the candidate is not barred from working with children and vulnerable adults.
