NHS Trust

Neil Taylor was given the £115,000-a-year job of heading the Shrewsbury & Telford Hospitals NHS Trust after dishonestly claiming to have a first-class degree from the University of Nottingham.

He also dishonestly claimed to be a graduate of the nonexistent Institute of Personnel Management at Nottingham and to have a postgraduate diploma in Forensic Medicine.

When his fraud was discovered he was sentenced to 12 months in jail. The judge commented "lies come back to haunt you".

The significant loss of time and money by the NHS trust would have been prevented by proper employment screening.

Thorough Scrutiny

Research carried out by leading IT recruitment consultancy Elan, found that 56 per cent of organisations among its blue chip client base are now scrutinising prospective employees more thoroughly than they did 12 months ago.
